Tête à Tête: The Opera Festival

Embark on a white-knuckle voyage for Tête à Tête: The Opera Festival from 5-22 August, a festival of new and innovative drama and storytelling driven by music and the voice. The festival includes Lite Bites, where four brand new super-short operas are rehearsed, developed and performed all over Riverside Studios, in foyers, theatres and public places across the Borough. Highlights of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2010 include Inside, a fiercely evocative, highly-charged physical dance-theatre featuring five outstanding male dancers and choreography by Jerwood Award-winner Jean Abreu. Abreu explores violence, incarceration, solitude and hope within the prison walls revealing the thoughts and vulnerabilities behind the criminal. On from 6-14 August at the Zoo Roxy, tickets cost £12.

The World of Tunde Jegede

The World of Tunde Jegede documents his full story for the first time, from childhood prodigy performer to social commentator and political activist in his early teens, to the birth of a contemporary classical composer and international artist with a conscience and message. The film looks at his position between worlds and draws us deeper into each of them. Screening at Rich mix from 14-15 August, tickets cost £8.50.

Slavery Remembrance Day

Slavery Remembrance Day falls on the anniversary of an uprising of enslaved Africans on the
island of
Saint Domingue (modern
Haiti) on 23 August 1791. UNESCO designated the date as a reminder that enslaved Africans were the main agents of their own liberation.
Liverpool's annual Slavery Remembrance Day Festival on 23 August will include live music, community showcases, cultural crafts and a traditional African libation ceremony.

Rukus! Federation, an award-winning Black Lesbian and Gay Arts Company is proud to launch the book: Conjuring Black Funk: Notes on Culture, Sexuality and Spirituality by Dr Herukhuti on 4 August at Brixton library. Dr Herukhuti is an African-American sociologist, anthropologist, sexologist, educator, artist and author. He is the founder of Black Funk. This one-off event will include a reading, Q and A and book signing. It's a fresh and frank evening on sex, sexuality and spirituality, and how we handle our relationships. Free.

The EU Journalist Award 2010 is open to online and print journalists in the EU who, through their work, contribute to a better public understanding of the value and benefits of diversity and the fight against discrimination in
